About the Listen Technologies LT-82-01 Stationary IR Transmitter

The Listen Technologies LT-82-01 is a stationary infrared (IR) transmitter designed to broadcast audio programming to an unlimited number of listeners using compatible IR receivers and headphones in assisted listening applications. This system is essential for providing accessibility in public venues as mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ensuring that individuals with hearing impairments can clearly hear audio from sources such as a sound system, television, or microphone in venues like theaters, courtrooms, houses of worship, and lecture halls. The transmitter operates by converting an audio input signal into a modulated infrared light signal, which is then emitted through multiple IR radiators to cover a designated area. Listeners within the line-of-sight of this IR light field can tune their personal receivers to pick up the crystal-clear, private audio feed.

The LT-82-01 is engineered for permanent installation and reliable 24/7 operation. It accepts a standard line-level audio input via balanced XLR or 1/4" connectors and features gain adjustment to optimize the modulation level for best sound quality and coverage. The unit's output drives external IR radiators, which are strategically placed around the room to ensure even coverage without dead spots. A key feature is its support for multiple audio channels, allowing for the simultaneous broadcast of different programs, such as a primary language and a translation, on separate channels (e.g., Channel 1 and Channel 2). Listeners can select their desired channel on their personal receiver.

Housed in a half-rack width metal enclosure, the transmitter is designed for discreet placement in a rack or technical closet. It includes status indicators for power, signal presence, and modulation level to aid in setup and troubleshooting. The system uses infrared light, which is confined to the room, ensuring privacy and security as the signal cannot pass through walls. For venue managers and system integrators, the Listen Technologies LT-82-01 provides a compliant, user-friendly, and high-fidelity solution for delivering accessible audio, enhancing the experience for all patrons while meeting important legal and ethical obligations.
