About the Meyer Sound 500-HP Compact Powered Subwoofer

The Meyer Sound 500-HP is a compact, self-powered high-output subwoofer designed to extend low-frequency headroom in both fixed installations and touring applications. Engineered and manufactured at Meyer Sound's Berkeley, California headquarters, the 500-HP houses two custom-designed 12-inch cone drivers with 4-inch voice coils, each rated to handle 1200 watts (AES), housed in a tuned, rectangular vented enclosure. The subwoofer delivers an operating frequency range of 35 Hz to 140 Hz with a peak SPL of 135 dB at 1 meter, offering an exceptional power-to-size ratio suitable for small-to-medium theaters, clubs, houses of worship, ballrooms, and portable AV systems.

An integral 2-channel class AB/H amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages provides a total burst output of 1800 watts (900 watts per channel), driving the low-frequency transducers with ample headroom for excellent transient reproduction and low-frequency clarity. The amplifier and processing electronics are equipped with Meyer Sound's Intelligent AC power supply, which automatically adapts to any power voltage worldwide and provides soft-turn-on and transient protection. The amplifier, control electronics, and power supply are field-replaceable modules located in the rear of the enclosure, facilitating maintenance and serviceability.

The 500-HP is available in two versions — one with side panel handles for portable use and one equipped with optional QuickFly MRF-500 rigging hardware for direct arraying with M'elodie ultracompact high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers. The rigging frame uses captive, recessed GuideALinks that allow the subwoofer to be flown from the MG-M'elodie rigging grid and enable a wide range of splay angles, including cardioid array configurations. An integral 1.5-inch pole-mount receptacle is standard on all 500-HP units, allowing easy pairing with UltraSeries loudspeakers. Constructed of premium birch plywood with a durable black textured hard-shell finish, the enclosure is protected by a hex-stamped steel grille with acoustical black mesh. The optional RMS remote monitoring system (standard on the rigging version) allows comprehensive monitoring of system parameters on Windows-based computers, and weather protection and custom color finishes are available for fixed installations.
