About the Meyer Sound UPA-1P Powered Speaker

The Meyer Sound UPA-1P is a compact, self-powered two-way loudspeaker renowned for its exceptional fidelity, high power output, and predictable polar behavior, suitable for a wide range of sound reinforcement applications. As a member of the UPA-P Series, it integrates a 12-inch cone low-frequency driver with a 3-inch diaphragm compression driver coupled to a proprietary 100° horizontal by 40° vertical constant-Q horn. This horn design ensures uniform frequency response within the coverage area and rapid attenuation outside it, resulting in minimal side lobing and predictable array performance. The UPA-1P is equally effective as a main front-of-house speaker in small to mid-sized venues or as a fill speaker in larger systems, and its symmetrical horn allows for both horizontal and vertical orientation.

The self-powered design incorporates a proprietary two-channel class AB/bridged amplifier with complementary MOSFET output stages, delivering a total peak output of 550 watts (350 Wrms/ch) to bi-amplify the low and high frequency drivers. Phase-corrected control electronics process the audio through an electronic crossover and correction filters, producing flat acoustical amplitude and phase response for exceptional impulse response and precise imaging. The integrated Intelligent AC power supply automatically selects the correct operating voltage from 90 V to 265 V AC, suppressing high voltage transients and providing soft-start power-up without high inrush current. The UPA-1P can also be equipped for the optional RMS remote monitoring system, allowing comprehensive system monitoring on a Windows-based PC.

Constructed with premium birch plywood and a durable black textured finish, the UPA-1P features a powder-coated hex-stamped steel grille with foam backing for driver protection. A 2006 update replaced the original removable foam grille with a more durable molded steel frame overlaying an inner screen, which remains standard on current units. Four ring and stud pan fittings on the top and bottom (three-eighths-inch or M10 nut plates optional) support rigging applications, with a working load of 420 lbs per fitting. The UPA-1P measures 14.5 inches wide by 22.4 inches high by 14.3 inches deep and weighs 77 lbs, with optional weather protection and custom color finishes available for fixed installations.
