Description

NETINT designs, develops, and sells ASIC-powered transcoders (also referred to as VPUs) like the Codensity T408, which is a video transcoder in a U.2 form-factor containing a single Codensity G4 ASIC (Figure 1). Operating in x86 and Arm-based servers, T408 transcoders utilize ASIC-based video processors to output H.264 or HEVC at up to 4Kp60, or 4x 1080p60 streams per T408 module. As you’ll see in the test results below, at lower resolutions, the T408 can produce even more simultaneous streams. The density numbers are shocking, but real. Users always like what they see – it’s the magic of silicon when designed right. By offloading complex encode/decode processing to the ASIC, T408 video transcoders minimize host CPU utilization. The result is a significant improvement in real-time transcoding density compared to any software or even GPU-based transcoding solution. Read more

About the NETINT Codensity T408 Video Transcoder

The NETINT Codensity T408 Video Transcoder is a dedicated ASIC-based video processing solution designed for high-density, real-time video encoding and transcoding in enterprise, cloud, and data-center environments. Built around NETINT’s Codensity G4 ASIC technology, the T408 provides hardware acceleration for H.264/AVC and H.265/HEVC workloads while significantly reducing dependence on host CPU resources. Its architecture is optimized for continuous 24/7 operation and high-volume video processing where encoding density, latency, and power efficiency are critical.

The T408 supports real-time video processing up to 4K at 60 frames per second and can deliver multiple simultaneous 1080p streams from a single module. Its hardware encoding engine supports H.264 and HEVC profiles including 10-bit video, with support for HDR10 and HDR10+, ROI encoding, flexible GOP structures, forced IDR insertion, and EIA/CEA-708 closed captioning. Sub-frame latency capabilities make the platform suitable for demanding interactive and live-video workflows where responsiveness is as important as throughput.

Designed for integration into x86 and Arm-based enterprise servers, the T408 uses a compact U.2 NVMe form factor and PCIe interface, allowing existing server infrastructure to be upgraded with dedicated video-processing capacity. Software integration is supported through NETINT SDKs for FFmpeg and GStreamer, enabling deployment into established transcoding pipelines with minimal architectural changes. The dedicated ASIC approach also allows multiple T408 units to be deployed in a single server to achieve substantially higher encoding density than conventional CPU-based solutions.

The T408 is well suited to OTT and IPTV platforms, live streaming services, video conferencing, surveillance, cloud gaming, social-media video, broadcast workflows, and other applications requiring scalable real-time encoding. With typical power consumption of approximately 7 Watts per module, it combines high processing density with low power demand, making it particularly appropriate for large-scale deployments where rack space, thermal capacity, operating cost, and sustained transcoding throughput are key considerations.
