About the QSC Q-SYS I/O-22 Multipurpose I/O Peripheral
The Q-SYS Q-SYS I/O-22 is a flexible, network-connected audio input/output peripheral designed to expand the capabilities of a Q-SYS Core processor by providing additional analog and digital audio interfaces at the edge of the system. As a multipurpose device, it serves as a critical bridge between the digital Q-LAN audio network and real-world audio sources and destinations in installed AV systems. The unit features a versatile mix of balanced analog inputs and outputs, alongside digital audio interfaces, allowing it to handle a wide range of tasks such as integrating legacy analog equipment (e.g., CD players, tape decks), connecting microphones and line-level sources, interfacing with digital audio devices via AES/EBU, or acting as a zone output for local amplifiers and speakers. Its compact, fanless design makes it ideal for discreet placement in lecterns, furniture, or equipment racks close to where audio sources originate.
The I/O-22 is more than a simple converter; it is an intelligent endpoint within the Q-SYS ecosystem. It connects to the network via a single Gigabit Ethernet cable, carrying both audio data and control signals, which dramatically reduces the need for long analog cable runs back to a central rack. Once connected, the device is automatically discovered and configured within the Q-SYS Designer software, where its inputs and outputs become available as software-controlled objects. This integration allows for powerful, centralized processing, including gain control, equalization, dynamics, and routing, all managed from the Core processor. The device also supports GPIO (General Purpose Input/Output) for basic control functions, such as muting a local source or triggering an external relay based on an audio event.
Engineered for the reliability required in professional installations, the I/O-22 operates silently and is built for continuous use. Its ability to be powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE+) adds to its installation flexibility, eliminating the need for a local power outlet in many scenarios. By decentralizing audio I/O and leveraging the robust Q-LAN network, the Q-SYS I/O-22 provides system designers with a powerful tool to create scalable, high-fidelity audio systems that are simpler to install, easier to manage, and more adaptable to future changes than traditional point-to-point analog wiring.
