Radial Engineering PRO AV1 Passive Direct Box

$0.00

The Radial Engineering PRO AV1 Passive Direct Box is a single-channel, transformer-isolated direct box specifically designed for multimedia and AV applications. It converts high-impedance, unbalanced signals from consumer audio and video devices into low-impedance, balanced signals suitable for professional PA systems and mixing consoles. A standout feature is its ability to automatically sum stereo inputs (from sources like laptops or MP3 players) to a mono output, which simplifies connections and saves channels on a mixer. Being passive, it requires no power source to operate.

About the Radial Engineering PRO AV1 Passive Direct Box

The Radial Engineering PRO AV1 is a professional-grade, passive direct box designed to solve common audio interface problems between consumer-grade AV equipment and professional sound systems. It is specifically engineered to handle the challenging audio signals often encountered in corporate AV, conference rooms, and live events where sources like laptops, media players, and consumer mixers output an unbalanced stereo signal at consumer line levels. The PRO AV1 elegantly converts these unbalanced stereo signals into two balanced mono signals suitable for long cable runs to a professional mixing console without introducing noise, hum, or ground loops. Its robust construction and innovative circuitry make it an essential tool for ensuring clean, reliable audio from any presentation or media playback source.

A core feature of the PRO AV1 is its advanced handling of ground isolation and common-mode rejection. It incorporates Radial's patented Drag Control load correction, which allows the engineer to adjust the load on the source device to mimic the natural load of a power amplifier. This helps restore the natural frequency response and dynamics that can be lost when connecting a consumer device to a professional system, resulting in a fuller, more accurate sound. Additionally, the unit features a ground lift switch to eliminate hum caused by ground loops and a polarity reverse switch on each channel to correct for incorrectly wired cables or system phase issues. The die-cast aluminum enclosure ensures durability while providing effective shielding against electromagnetic interference.

The design prioritizes simplicity and reliability in high-pressure environments. It requires no batteries or external power, operating entirely passively through high-quality audio transformers. Inputs are via standard 1/8-inch (3.5mm) stereo and dual RCA jacks, while outputs are provided on two balanced XLR connectors. This straightforward interface allows for quick setup and foolproof operation. By providing critical signal balancing, ground isolation, and tonal correction in a single, rugged unit, the Radial PRO AV1 acts as a vital bridge in any AV system, guaranteeing that audio from consumer electronics is integrated into a professional PA with maximum fidelity and minimum noise.
