About the Riedel Connect Solo 12V DC/15 Codec

The Riedel Connect Solo is a compact, standalone real-time audio codec designed for professional broadcast and live production contribution links, offering reliable, high-quality stereo audio transport over IP networks. Operating as a single-channel (stereo pair) encoder/decoder, it provides a robust solution for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint audio transmission in applications such as remote interviews, satellite backhaul replacement, studio-to-transmitter links (STL), and distribution of audio streams within large event production networks. The unit supports a wide range of audio codecs, including low-latency, high-fidelity options like MPEG-4 AAC-LC and AAC-HE, as well as legacy formats, allowing users to balance audio quality against available bandwidth. Its 12V DC power input makes it particularly suitable for mobile deployments in outside broadcast (OB) vehicles, flypacks, and temporary remote locations where power constraints exist.

The Connect Solo is engineered for operational simplicity and resilience. It features intuitive front-panel controls and a clear display for status monitoring and configuration, allowing for quick setup and verification of connection parameters like IP address, jitter buffer status, signal strength, and audio levels. The device incorporates advanced forward error correction (FEC) and packet loss concealment algorithms to maintain audio continuity and quality over unpredictable or congested IP networks, such as the public internet or dedicated circuits. Redundant network connections via dual Ethernet ports support failover scenarios, ensuring uninterrupted audio transport even if one network path degrades, which is critical for live, on-air broadcasts where signal loss is unacceptable.

Connectivity is comprehensive, with professional analog audio inputs and outputs via XLR connectors, AES3 digital audio I/O, and a reference input for synchronization. Management can be handled locally via the front panel or remotely via a web-based interface or Riedel's centralized management software, enabling technicians to monitor and control multiple units across a distributed network from a single location. By packaging broadcast-grade audio transport, network resilience, and flexible management into a small, portable unit, the Riedel Connect Solo provides a dependable and versatile building block for modern IP-based audio contribution and distribution infrastructures.
