RME 12MIC Mic- and Line-Level Preamp for Audio Networks

$2,999.00

Designed to provide pristine, studio-quality audio in modern networked workflows, the RME 12Mic integrates 12 microphone and line-level inputs with digitally controlled, high-end A/D conversion. Its pad-free microphone preamps offer a wide 75 dB gain range and accept signals up to +18 dBu, ensuring high performance even with low-level sources. All 12 front-facing XLR inputs can accept microphone and line signals, with the first four channels also featuring TRS connectors with switchable high impedance (Hi-Z) for instruments. The 12Mic is built to be a flexible network audio solution. Its standard AVB (Audio Video Bridging) version offers two fully redundant network ports, adhering to MILAN standards for maximum operational reliability. A Dante-equipped version, the 12Mic-D, is also available for seamless integration into existing Dante networks. All device states, including gain groups and signal routing, can be controlled directly from the front panel or remotely via a web interface accessible from any network link, including over Wi-Fi.

About the RME 12MIC Mic- and Line-Level Preamp for Audio Networks

The RME 12MIC is a high-channel-count, standalone microphone and line preamplifier designed for integration into professional audio networks. This unit provides 12 channels of premium-quality analog input, each equipped with RME's transparent and high-headroom microphone preamplifiers, and converts them into digital audio streams for transmission over network protocols like Dante, MADI, or AVB. It is engineered for applications requiring a large number of remote microphone feeds, such as in live sound reinforcement for large venues, broadcast studios, theater productions, and fixed installations where preamps need to be placed close to the source while audio is managed centrally over an IP or fiber network.

A core strength of the 12MIC is its flexibility in digital connectivity. Depending on the specific model, it offers various digital output options to interface with different ecosystem standards. This allows it to serve as a front-end for digital mixing consoles, recording systems, or audio processors located hundreds of meters away. Each channel typically includes features like +48V phantom power, high-pass filters, and gain control, which can often be managed remotely via software or from a connected digital mixer. The unit is built for reliability in 24/7 operation, housed in a robust 1U or 2U rack-mountable chassis with redundant power supplies and network connections in many configurations.

By combining high-quality analog preamplification with robust digital networking, the RME 12MIC eliminates the need for long, noise-sensitive analog cable runs and large, expensive analog stage boxes. It provides a scalable, future-proof solution for capturing pristine audio from multiple sources and integrating them seamlessly into modern, network-based audio workflows, making it a powerful tool for system integrators and audio engineers in complex production environments.
