RME ADI4DD 8 Channel, 24 Bit/96kHz Digital Interface and Dual Format Converter

$0.00

The ADI-4 DD functions as two distinct converters within a single unit: one converting eight channels from AES-3 to ADAT, and another converting eight channels from ADAT to AES-3. For AES connectivity, it offers a single XLR I/O and a D-sub 25-pin connector for a total of eight AES channels. The D-sub connector pinout can be adjusted internally to match the Tascam, Yamaha, or Euphonix standards. Two ADAT optical ports support full eight-channel operation up to 96kHz using S/MUX technology.
The unit features RME's renowned clocking technology, including SteadyClock for highly effective jitter suppression and Intelligent Clock Control (ICC), which holds the last valid sample rate if the input signal is lost. This ensures stable and reliable performance in demanding applications. A comprehensive set of LED indicators on the front panel provides easy-to-read feedback on the status of all inputs and operations. Additionally, RME's SyncAlign technology prevents sample misalignments that can occur with multiple AES/EBU inputs.

About the RME ADI4DD 8 Channel, 24 Bit/96kHz Digital Interface and Dual Format Converter

The RME ADI-4DD is a specialized 8-channel digital audio interface and dual-format converter designed to bridge and convert between the two primary professional digital audio formats: AES/EBU and ADAT (also known as TOSLINK or Lightpipe). Housed in a compact half-rack width enclosure, this unit provides transparent, sample-accurate conversion, allowing seamless integration of equipment using different digital standards within a studio, broadcast, or live sound system. It is an essential tool for expanding I/O count, connecting outboard digital processors to interfaces with ADAT ports, or feeding digital mixing consoles with signals from ADAT-equipped preamp units. Its operation is entirely in the digital domain, ensuring no generational loss in audio quality during the format translation process.

The unit's functionality is centered on its ability to independently convert two separate stereo (2-channel) AES/EBU signals into eight channels of ADAT optical output, and vice versa. This makes it particularly useful for interfacing high-end 2-channel DACs or ADCs with multi-channel digital systems, or for breaking out individual channels from a stereo AES stream into discrete ADAT channels for processing. The ADI-4DD supports sample rates up to 96 kHz and automatically handles sample rate conversions and synchronization, featuring RME's robust SteadyClock technology to minimize jitter and ensure stable, clean digital signal transfer regardless of the input source's clock quality.

Designed for reliability and simplicity, the ADI-4DD requires no software configuration, operating as a standalone hardware device. Its front panel provides clear status indicators for sample rate, synchronization, and signal presence. The robust build and focused feature set make it a dependable, set-and-forget component in any professional digital audio chain. For system integrators and engineers needing to solve specific digital format incompatibility issues or efficiently manage digital audio routing between different device types, the RME ADI-4DD offers a straightforward, high-quality, and reliable solution.
