RME AVBTOOL Mic Preamp, Router, and Converter

$1,899.00

The AVBTOOL features four high-precision analog inputs via XLR/TRS combo jacks, each with a remote-controllable 75dB gain range and switchable Hi-Z for instruments. These inputs are derived from the same technology used in the first four channels of RME's high-end 12Mic preamp, ensuring exceptional sound quality. The unit also provides two balanced line outputs and a stereo headphone output for convenient monitoring of any network or local signal.
On the digital side, the AVBTOOL is a powerful MADI-to-AVB converter and router, supporting up to 128 channels over both AVB and MADI. The AVB implementation is MILAN-compatible and supports up to eight streams in each direction. A coaxial MADI port and an optional optical SFP module provide flexible MADI connectivity, including seamless redundancy. Control of the device can be done directly from the front panel or remotely via a web interface. RME's signature SteadyClock FS technology ensures ultra-low jitter for stable and clear digital audio.

About the RME AVBTOOL Mic Preamp, Router, and Converter

The RME AVBTOOL is a sophisticated, multi-functional network audio device that integrates several critical professional audio functions into a single, compact unit. It serves primarily as a high-quality microphone preamplifier, a flexible audio router, and a precision format converter, all interconnected and controllable via the Audio Video Bridging (AVB) Ethernet protocol. This convergence of capabilities makes it a powerful central hub for small to medium-sized audio installations, particularly in environments like conference rooms, corporate facilities, houses of worship, and educational settings where streamlined, networked audio solutions are preferred. The device features multiple analog and digital audio inputs and outputs, allowing it to interface with a wide array of source equipment, including microphones, line-level devices, and digital audio streams, and then distribute processed audio over a standard Ethernet network to amplifiers, recording systems, or other AVB-compatible endpoints.

At its core, the AVBTOOL provides a set of transparent, low-noise microphone preamps with phantom power, enabling direct connection of dynamic and condenser microphones. Its integrated digital signal processor offers routing matrix flexibility, level control, delay, and basic dynamics processing, allowing audio signals to be mixed, split, and directed to any output with sample-accuracy. As a format converter, it seamlessly bridges between analog audio, AES3 digital audio, and the AVB network stream, ensuring compatibility across different generations of equipment. Control and configuration are managed through an intuitive, dedicated software application that provides access to all parameters, from preamp gain and phantom power to complex routing scenarios and network stream management, all from a computer connected to the same network.

Built with RME's renowned focus on stability and audio fidelity, the device operates with extremely low latency and offers rock-solid clock synchronization across the AVB network. Its design emphasizes reliability for 24/7 operation in installed sound applications. By combining essential audio interfacing, processing, and networking into one tool, the RME AVBTOOL simplifies system design, reduces the need for multiple discrete components, and provides a future-proof, software-controllable backbone for modern audio distribution systems. It represents a significant step toward converged network-based audio, where control, audio transport, and signal processing are unified over a single Ethernet cable.
