RME DMC842 AES42 Interface and Control Device for Digital Microphones

$0.00

As a 2U rack-mountable unit, the DMC842 offers comprehensive interfacing and control capabilities. Each of the eight XLR inputs supports the AES42 standard, which provides Digital Phantom Power (DPP) to compatible microphones. The DMC842 supports both Mode 1 (asynchronous) and Mode 2 (synchronized) AES42 operations. For microphones operating in Mode 2, the DMC842 can remotely control parameters like gain, polar patterns, high-pass filters, and compression directly from the front panel or via MIDI. For Mode 1 microphones, the unit's high-end sample rate converters allow for integration into a synchronous system.
The DMC842 provides extensive output options, including 8 balanced analog XLR outputs, 8 channels of AES/EBU via a D-sub connector, and 8 channels of ADAT optical output. For larger systems, an optional MADI card can be installed, enabling up to 64 channels and daisy-chaining with other RME devices. The device features RME's signature clocking technologies, including SteadyClock and Intelligent Clock Control (ICC), ensuring impeccable synchronization and jitter suppression.

About the RME DMC842 AES42 Interface and Control Device for Digital Microphones

The RME DMC-842 is a dedicated interface and control unit designed specifically for use with digital microphones utilizing the AES42 standard. This professional audio device acts as the critical link between digital microphones, which output a digital audio stream directly from their capsule, and standard digital audio systems that rely on AES3 (AES/EBU) or analog connections. It provides phantom power, data communication, and master clocking for up to two digital microphones via specialized XLD connectors, converting their high-resolution digital audio output into four channels of AES3 digital audio and two channels of analog audio. This enables seamless integration of digital microphones into existing studio, broadcast, or live sound setups that are based on conventional analog or digital mixers and interfaces.

Beyond simple signal conversion, the DMC-842 offers comprehensive remote control and parameter adjustment for connected digital microphones. Through its intuitive front-panel interface or remote software, users can adjust critical microphone parameters such as polar pattern, preamp gain, low-cut filters, and delay directly from the unit, without needing to physically touch the microphone. This level of control is invaluable in difficult-to-reach installation scenarios or during live broadcasts where fine-tuning from the mixing position is essential. The unit also functions as a high-quality, low-jitter master clock for the entire digital microphone system, ensuring perfect synchronization and optimal audio performance from the connected microphones.

The device is engineered with RME's reputation for reliability and high audio quality, featuring pristine analog conversion circuits for its monitor outputs and robust digital signal handling. It supports all sampling rates from 44.1 kHz to 192 kHz, making it compatible with high-resolution recording workflows. For system flexibility, it includes both AES3 and S/PDIF digital outputs, as well as analog XLR outputs. The RME DMC-842 is an essential tool for audio professionals who wish to leverage the advanced capabilities and pristine signal path of digital microphones within a traditional studio or broadcast infrastructure, providing both the necessary interface and unprecedented remote control.
