Sennheiser MKH 8030 Figure-8 Condenser Microphone

$1,599.00

Ideally suited for studio, orchestra, and field recording as well as broadcast applications, the Sennheiser MKH 8030 Figure-8 Condenser Microphone enables audio professionals to capture pristine, detailed sound over an extended frequency range in nearly any environment. The mic fits both the MZX 8000 XLR module (included) and the MZD 8000 digital module and is a great choice for capturing room tone, recording a duet, or wherever the highest attenuation of neighboring sound sources is required. The figure-8 pickup pattern lends itself nicely to various stereo recording configurations, including Mid/Side and Blumlein arrays.

An MZW 8030 foam windshield and MZQ 8000 mic clip are included. There is also a pair of Rycote Back-to-Back microphone clips ideal for adding an MKH 8040/8050 microphone to the MKH 8030 for mid-side or stereo audio capture.

About the Sennheiser MKH 8030 Figure-8 Condenser Microphone

The Sennheiser MKH 8030 is a professional, compact figure-8 condenser microphone designed for critical studio and location recording applications. As part of Sennheiser’s renowned MKH 8000 series, it leverages the company’s proprietary RF condenser technology, which utilizes a low-frequency carrier signal to polarize the capsule. This approach offers significant advantages over traditional DC-biased condenser designs, including complete immunity to humidity, exceptionally low self-noise, and outstanding linearity across the entire frequency and dynamic range. The microphone’s figure-8 (bidirectional) polar pattern captures sound with equal sensitivity from the front and rear while offering maximum rejection from the sides (90° off-axis). This makes it an invaluable tool for advanced stereo recording techniques such as Mid-Side (M/S), Blumlein, and double-MS configurations, as well as for isolating sound sources in reverberant environments.

Sonically, the MKH 8030 is characterized by a smooth, transparent, and highly linear frequency response from 30 Hz to 20 kHz, with no pronounced presence peak or bass roll-off, ensuring accurate source reproduction. Its exceptionally low noise floor (10 dB-A) and high maximum SPL handling (134 dB) allow it to capture the finest details of quiet acoustic instruments as well as the full impact of loud sound sources without distortion. The microphone’s compact, all-metal body is robustly built for professional field use and features a matte, non-reflective finish. Its small size and lightweight design facilitate placement in tight spaces and on stereo bars, making it ideal for orchestral recording, acoustic ensembles, and sound design where precise imaging and spatial accuracy are paramount.

The MKH 8030 operates on standard 48V phantom power and features a transformerless, balanced output with very low output impedance, ensuring a clean, strong signal capable of driving long cable runs without high-frequency loss or interference. Its versatility extends beyond stereo imaging; the figure-8 pattern is also highly effective for dialogue recording in situations where two speakers are facing each other or for capturing both direct sound and controlled room ambience. With its benchmark performance, rugged reliability, and the sonic neutrality essential for post-production flexibility, the Sennheiser MKH 8030 is a reference-grade tool for audio professionals in music, film, and broadcast who demand the highest standard of fidelity and precision in a bidirectional microphone.
