Shure Centraverse Overhead Cardioid Condenser Microphone

$113.00

The black Shure CVB-B/O is a Centraverse Series omnidirectional boundary condenser microphone designed to provide an optimized-for-speech frequency response and discreet desktop installation for presenters and speakers in conference rooms, corporate events, houses of worship, and meetings. The low-profile microphone features CommShield technology to reject RF interference and an attached 12’ XLR cable for compatibility with most mic preamps.

The omnidirectional condenser element yields a frequency response of 70 Hz to 16 kHz, which naturally attenuates low frequencies that are often produced by vibration and rumble. It is powered by 11 to 52 VDC phantom power.

About the Shure Centraverse Overhead Cardioid Condenser Microphone

The Shure Centraverse represents a sophisticated overhead microphone solution engineered specifically for capturing pristine audio in studio recording and high-fidelity live sound reinforcement environments. This condenser microphone is distinguished by its unique cardioid polar pattern, which is meticulously tailored to provide focused, front-address sensitivity while effectively rejecting sounds originating from the sides and rear. This directional characteristic is crucial for isolating sound sources and minimizing unwanted ambient noise or stage bleed, making it exceptionally well-suited for capturing the nuanced details of acoustic instruments, drum overheads, choral ensembles, and ambient room tones. Its design philosophy centers on delivering a transparent, accurate, and natural sonic reproduction, catering to the demands of audio professionals who require clarity and detail without artificial coloration.

The microphone leverages advanced condenser transducer technology, which necessitates phantom power for operation, to achieve a wide frequency response and high sensitivity capable of capturing subtle transients and complex harmonic content. The Centraverse model typically incorporates features such as a switchable high-pass filter to reduce low-frequency rumble and a pad attenuation circuit to prevent clipping from extremely high sound pressure levels, offering greater flexibility in challenging acoustic situations. The physical build reflects a commitment to durability, often housing the sensitive capsule within a robust chassis that includes an integrated shock mount to isolate the microphone from mechanical vibrations and handling noise, which is paramount for overhead applications.

In practical application, this microphone excels in scenarios demanding precise spatial imaging and detailed audio capture. Audio engineers frequently deploy it as a stereo pair above drum kits to articulate the full spectrum of cymbals and skins with clarity and depth, or as a discrete pickup for piano, string sections, and theatrical performances. Its controlled polar pattern allows for greater gain before feedback in live settings compared to omnidirectional models, while its sonic accuracy makes it a valuable tool for critical studio work. The Shure Centraverse thus stands as a specialized tool that bridges the gap between technical precision and artistic audio capture, providing a reliable and high-quality source for critical listening and recording.
