Shure KSM44A/SL Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone

$1,099.00

Featuring integral pop protection and shock-mounting plus a multipattern true condenser capsule and transparent Class-A circuitry with ultralow self-noise, the Shure KSM44A/SL large-diaphragm microphone is built to deliver excellent transient response, neutral tone, and the flexibility to handle most sound sources and mic configurations. Its flat frequency response and selectable settings—two low-cut filter options and a -15 dB pad—make the KSM44A/SL honest and versatile, so it can be used on anything from vocals and guitars to drums and piano.

The cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8 polar patterns of the KSM44A/SL allow it work optimally as a close mic, room mic, or single mic for multiple instruments. The built-in pop protection utilizes three separate layers to minimize noise from vocal plosives, breaths, and even light wind. Internal shock-mounting helps to decouple the mic from sources of vibration that could otherwise transfer from the mic body to the capsule. Being a solid-state XLR condenser mic, the KSM44A/SL requires 48V phantom power. Since it comes with a ShureLock shockmount, ShureLock swivel adapter, velveteen pouch, and hard shell carrying case, it is equally ready for the studio and the stage.

About the Shure KSM44A/SL Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone

The Shure KSM44A/SL is a studio-grade large-diaphragm condenser microphone that offers versatility and exceptional audio quality for critical recording applications. This microphone features three selectable polar patterns—cardioid, omnidirectional, and figure-8—allowing engineers to tailor its pickup characteristics to the source and the acoustic environment. The cardioid pattern provides focused isolation for vocals or solo instruments, the omnidirectional pattern captures a natural room sound and is less susceptible to proximity effect, and the figure-8 pattern is ideal for recording two sources simultaneously or for employing advanced stereo techniques like Blumlein. This flexibility makes it a valuable tool for vocals, acoustic instruments, drum overheads, and piano.

At the heart of the KSM44A/SL is a dual-diaphragm capsule design and a transformerless, low-noise circuitry that delivers a transparent, detailed sound with a wide dynamic range and low self-noise. It is characterized by an exceptionally flat, neutral frequency response that captures sources with accuracy and without coloration, providing a pristine canvas for further processing. The microphone includes a three-position bass roll-off filter and a pad attenuator to handle high sound pressure levels, ensuring clean recordings even on loud sources. Its sleek, satin nickel finish and robust internal shock mount contribute to both its professional appearance and its performance by minimizing handling noise.

The KSM44A/SL is engineered for the professional recording studio, broadcast facility, and demanding project studio. Its combination of pattern versatility, sonic purity, and built-in flexibility (pad and filter) makes it a reliable first-choice microphone for a vast array of sources. It empowers engineers and artists to capture recordings with clarity, depth, and precision, making it a cornerstone microphone for any serious recording endeavor.
