About the Symetrix SymNet 8x8 DSP Digital Signal Processor
The Symetrix SymNet 8x8 is a modular, open-architecture digital signal processor (DSP) designed for commercial audio installation and fixed sound reinforcement applications. It serves as the central audio brain for systems requiring routing, mixing, and processing of multiple audio signals. The base unit provides eight balanced analog inputs and eight balanced analog outputs, which can be expanded and reconfigured through the use of plug-in accessory cards for additional analog or digital I/O, such as mic preamps, Dante networking, or CobraNet. This modularity allows system designers to tailor the DSP's connectivity to the exact needs of a project, from a small conference room to a large distributed audio system.
Processing power is at the core of the SymNet, featuring a 32-bit floating-point DSP engine capable of running a wide array of audio algorithms simultaneously. These include parametric and graphic equalization, dynamics processing (compressors, limiters, gates), delay, matrix mixing, and AEC (Acoustic Echo Cancellation) for teleconferencing. Configuration is performed using Symetrix's intuitive SymNet Composer software, which provides a drag-and-drop interface for building signal flow diagrams, making complex system design accessible to integrators. The processor stores multiple presets that can be recalled via contact closures, RS-232, or Ethernet for system automation.
Built for reliability in 24/7 operation, the unit features a robust steel chassis and is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Control integration is flexible, supporting third-party control systems like Crestron and AMX through its open protocol command set. The SymNet 8x8 balances powerful DSP capabilities with a flexible, expandable I/O structure and user-friendly software, making it a versatile and enduring choice for integrators designing customized audio solutions for corporate, hospitality, education, and worship venues.
