Venus Optics Laowa 8-16mm f/3.5-5 Zoom CF Lens

The Venus Optics Laowa 8-16mm f/3.5-5 Zoom CF is an ultra-wide-angle manual zoom lens designed specifically for APS-C mirrorless cameras. Offering an expansive focal range equivalent to 12-24mm on full-frame sensors, it provides one of the widest zoom perspectives available for smaller sensor formats. This makes it an exceptional tool for landscape photography, real estate, architecture, and dramatic travel compositions. Built with a robust all-metal housing, the lens features an internal zoom mechanism that ensures its barrel never extends, maintaining a consistent physical length and center of gravity that is ideal for balancing on gimbals or drones.

Optical performance relies on a sophisticated design of 16 elements in 12 groups, including two aspherical and two extra-low dispersion (ED) lens pieces to combat chromatic aberrations and preserve central sharpness. A specialized 5-blade aperture diaphragm produces striking, crisp 10-point sunstars when shooting pointedly into bright light sources. For hybrid creators and videographers, the manual aperture ring features a dedicated mechanical toggle switch that can de-click the ring for smooth, silent iris adjustments during live video capture. While it lacks electronic communication contacts, the lens boasts a short 20cm minimum focusing distance for dynamic close-up perspectives and accommodates large 86mm front filters directly via its included petal-style lens hood.
