The Waves Y96K is a hardware-software hybrid expansion board that slides into a standard Yamaha Mini-YGDAI slot to bypass external outboard gear and save computer CPU. Powered by dual internal processors, it runs legendary Waves plug-ins directly on the mixer's architecture with 48-bit internal precision. About the Waves Y96K Processing Card

The Waves Y96K is a mini-YGDAI DSP expansion card designed specifically for legacy Yamaha digital mixing consoles, including industry staples like the PM5D, DM2000, 02R96, DM1000, and 01V96. It essentially functions as a "studio-in-a-box," allowing front-of-house mixers and recording engineers to bring high-end Waves software plugins into the live realm or hardware studio environment.

Before modern external SoundGrid servers became the industry standard for running plugins, the Y96K provided onboard, hardware-accelerated DSP. This allowed users to run classic studio processors—such as the Renaissance Compressor, L1 Ultramaximizer, and TrueVerb—directly inside the Yamaha desk without relying on a fragile external computer setup. To make the card even more versatile, it doubles as a digital audio interface, providing 8 channels of ADAT optical I/O to easily bridge the console with external multitrack recorders or AD/DA converters.
