About the Wurlitzer 2616 Console Piano

The Wurlitzer Model 2616 is a classic acoustic upright console piano that hails from the golden era of mid-century "Made in America" manufacturing. Built in DeKalb, Illinois, this model was designed as a durable, space-conscious, and highly affordable instrument for the average household, making it the starting point for generations of students, educators, and hobbyists.

Because it is a console piano—typically standing around 42 inches tall—it features a direct-blow action, which offers a much more responsive and dynamic playing experience compared to the smaller, somewhat sluggish "drop-action" spinet pianos of the same era. Despite its compact footprint, Wurlitzer engineered these models to withstand decades of rigorous household use, outfitting them with a heavily reinforced back structure to maintain structural integrity and long-term tuning stability.
